Vangdudnamjil is documented in this atlas’s master chronology only as Gungsangnorbu’s immediate predecessor as jasag of Kharachin Right Banner, Josotu League, a succession dated to 1898. That date is itself reference-tier, not independently citable scholarship. No other fact about him (birth, death, tenure length, family, or any activity as jasag) is available to this atlas from any source currently in hand. The single frontmatter year above, 1898, marks the one documented point, the succession, not a birth, death, or tenure span.

VERIFY-GATE (coverage probable, not confirmed; source not held). An earlier research pass reported that Jagchid’s Gungsangnorbu study indexes “Prince Wangdudnamjil” (also romanized Wangdut Namzil), and recorded that as closing the open question of whether the study treats this predecessor at all. That claim is downgraded here from confirmed to probable. It came from a search-result snippet attributed to a work titled Prince Gungsangnorbu and Inner Mongolian Modernization, whose separate existence this atlas now doubts (see the Gungsangnorbu entry’s gate: the title and year reported in that same pass were both wrong). The index sighting may well belong instead to Jagchid’s Essays in Mongolian Studies (Provo, Utah: David M. Kennedy Center for International Affairs, 1988), which is a full volume and would carry an index; that is a reconstruction to check on acquisition, not an established fact. The source to consult remains Sechin Jagchid, “Prince Gungsangnorbu: Forerunner of Inner Mongolian Nationalism,” Zentralasiatische Studien 12 (1981), pp. 147–158, reprinted as Chapter 16 of Essays in Mongolian Studies. Atwood 2002, now held by this atlas, does not treat Vangdudnamjil at all. Do not expand this entry until Jagchid has been consulted directly, and treat whatever it yields on him as likely brief.
